Bookbinding Workshops: Summer 2008

Gold Tooling – 1/2 November 2008

2-Day Workshop

We will be going through the basics of gold tooling with 24 c leafgold by making a sample plaquette.

Leather Onlays and Inlays – 6/7 December 2008

2-Day Workshop

We will be learning how to pare and prepare the leather for leather onlays and inlays. This course will require basic gold tooling/gilding ability.

Traditional German Vellum Binding

5-Day Workshop (limited to 7 participants)

Cost: $550 (Deposit of $150 due on enrolment)

Date and Place: January 5-10, 2009 at the Bindery of the NSW Guild of Craft Bookbinders

This binding style is very versatile and a forerunner to the Bradel binding. The bookblock will be sewn onto vellum strips which later are being threaded through the outer vellum cover to connect the bookblock with the cover and with that they also become decorative. We will be titling the book and airbrushing the decoration onto the book.

The finished result can be seen in the present bookbinding exhibition at the Gallery of NSW. I attach a photo of the book.
